After the recent series of reports by the Miami Herald titled, “Poverty Peddler,” it is clear that County Manager George Burgess does not have the best interest of the citizens of Miami-Dade County at heart. Every scandal that has erupted under his administration, he has deflected the blame somewhere else. As citizens of this great and diverse community, I urge all of you to contact Mayor Carlos Alvarez and urge him to force the resignation of George Burgess.
It is clear that George Burgess puts the interest of lobbyist and political allies’ way above the interest of the people. He has shown a deeper fidelity to the political interests of individual commissioners than to the public interest and good ethical management. It is in the county’s best interest for the County Manager to resign, and if he fails to do so, the Mayor should remove him from office.
Mayor Carlos Alvarez must show a markedly stronger commitment to exercising his oversight responsibility. Let the Mayor know that he can demonstrate that commitment to the people of Miami-Dade County by calling for the immediate departure of County Manager George Burgess, who has failed to live up to his fiduciary responsibility to the people of Miami-Dade County.
